Smolin Lupin to be a Proud Sponsor of Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure
Smolin Lupin's South Florida office is already gearing up to participate in the 21st Annual Susan G. Komen South Florida Race for the Cure this winter. Smolin will be a proud sponsor of this year's race, and several staff have already signed up to participate, including, Tom Cole, Connie Eckerle and her daughter Alison Eckerle, Kayla Kennedy and Barbara Anderson.
"I think everybody's lives, in one way or another, are touched by this deadly disease - whether it be a family member or a friend or a relative," Eckerle said. "This is our way of contributing and supporting the people in our community."
Eckerle said breast cancer awareness is such an important cause because it affects so many. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the U.S., and one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
The Komen South Florida Race for the Cure is the oldest 5K run/walk in Florida with over 25,000 participants and supporters. The 21st Annual Race will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 in Downtown West Palm Beach overlooking the intracoastal. The Race has a Women’s and Men’s 5K Run, 5K Co-ed Walk, 1-mile Fun Walk, Kids for the Cure® and Tots for the Cure events.
The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen was established in 1991 and hosted its first Komen Race for the Cure in 1992. Since its inception, the Affiliate has awarded grants totaling over $15 million for community education, breast cancer screening, biopsies and cancer treatment as well as cutting-edge research.
